NAHB to Honor Educator of the Year Award Winners at 2012 International Builders’ Show
Bill Owens Honored as Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) Educator of the Year
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) will present a new award – Educator of the Year – to individuals who have excelled in teaching NAHB’s education courses to builders, remodelers and other industry professionals. NAHB will recognize its top industry educators during the 2012 International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando, Fla.
“The educators being honored have all played an integral role in the overwhelming success of NAHB’s professional designations,” said Jim Sattler, chairman of the NAHB Education Committee and a builder from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “Through their efforts as instructors, they have made it possible for builders, remodelers and others in the industry to serve the needs of their clients, bringing them the latest information available on the home building industry.”
The following educators will be honored:
• Builder/Remodeler Educator of the Year: Beverly Koehn, CAPS, CGA, CGB, CMP, CSP, GMB, MIRM, president of Beverly Koehn & Associates, San Antonio, Texas.
• Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) Co-Educator of the Year: Bill Owens, CAPS, CGP, CGR, owner of Owens Construction, Powell, Ohio.
• Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) Co-Educator of the Year: Dan Bawden, CAPS, CGP, CGR, GMB, president of Legal Eagle Contracting, Houston.
• Green Educator of the Year: Bill Asdal, CGP, CGR, GMB, managing member of Asdal Builders, Chester, N.J.
• Sales and Marketing Educator of the Year: Gian Hasbrock, CGP, CMP, CSP, Master CSP, MIRM, a new home counselor for Beazer Homes, Durham, N.C.
NAHB offers more than 40 educational courses and 13 professional designations tailored for the specific needs of builders, remodelers and other industry professionals. The courses focus on practical training for both newcomers and veterans, with ideas and strategies that can be applied for everyday use in the student’s respective field of business. In order to become an instructor, individuals are approved based on their industry experience and knowledge. They also must have earned the relevant NAHB designation for the courses they plan to teach.
“NAHB’s Educators of the Year bring something extra to the classroom. Not only are they thorough with the course material, but they integrate their own experiences to the classes,” Sattler said. “Students find this personal touch very helpful in grasping the content.”
The Educators of the Year will be recognized on Feb. 7 at the Designation Achievement Reception prior to the 2012 IBS in Orlando, Fla. IBS is the largest annual light construction exposition in the world and is expected to play host to 50,000 home builders, remodelers, developers, architects and suppliers to the home building industry. The show takes place Feb. 8-11 at the Orange County Convention Center. For additional information and to register, visit http://www.buildersshow.com/.
